The
English Alumni Family
(Old Students Association of Department of English)
Introduction
“The
English Alumni Family” is the old students association of department of
English, G.B.R. Degree College, Huvinahadagali. It is an unique effort in the
under graduation level to establish a departmental alumni. Optional English was
introduced in the year 2006-07 in G.B.R. Degree College. Since then there was a
continuous flow of interest in students who are willing to study English as one
of the optional subjects. It is the sincere efforts of the teachers of English
and the cordial relationship between the students and the teachers have
resulted in the establishment of “The English Alumni Family.” It was the lively
gift given to the department of English and to the college by its old students.
“The
English Alumni Family” was inaugurated on March 14, 2011 by Prof.H.A.Bhikshavarthimath,
principal of SJVP College Harihar. The uniqueness of ‘The Family’ is in its
name also. We call it as ‘The Family’ rather than merely an association. We
were not just the students while we were here but we were treated by the entire
teachers as their children. And all the students of the department were also
like family members.
Aim and Motif
Develop
a cordial relationship between the present students and old students of the
department. To encourage the talents and to be with all the programmes of the
department that enables its students to establish themselves in the society.
Achievements
Ø We have
started our own blog to keep in touch with everyone especially with the family
members.
Ø We have
encouraged the English learners by awarding the following in August 2011
o Top scorer
in English( P.U.C)
o Top scorer
in Basic English
o Top scorer
in Optional English
Ø We had
asked to help in establishing the department library and now we are running a
department library in order to help the English students.
Ø We were the
co sponsors of “U.G.C. Sponsored One Day
Workshop on English Language Teaching: Prospects and Problems.” And our
family members have actively participated in it.
Future Plans
v Expansion
of the department library and the digitalization of it.
v Encourage
the students to go for higher studies by offering fellowships.
v Organizing
seminars, workshops and training programmes of various levels to increase the
interest in English language and literature.
